The library has so many things to offer. It is not just a place to go get books anymore. There is technology, history, old maps with countries no longer here, classes, book signings, games and more.

I love to help everyone to the best of my abilities. It is fun to listen to people opinions about books they have checked out. I am always ready to hear suggestions for books or ideas of things the library can do or offer to the public. I started working here in Dec. 2010

I enjoy working at the library because I LOVE to read. It is fun to see the new books. I also enjoy visiting with the people who come in. Sometimes I get to suggest an author, that I think they may enjoy reading.

Who We Are: Hudson,
South Dakota

Hudson aka. Eden

Hudson aka. Eden was built in 1868 on the banks of Pattee Creek, one mile south and one mile west of present day Hudson. The first settlers named the town Eden because of a soil sample they had taken to Sioux City and were told it was comparable to the Garden of Eden. Ten years later, the town of Eden moved to its existing location due to the fact the railroad would be passing by in that area.

By 1881, the population grew to 300 people. After the move, many businesses were built including a hotel, grocery store, general store, a saloon, a lumberyard, a depot, two elevators, churches, a bank,mill and newspaper office and a drugstore. In 1879, a two-story school was built for $700 and 65 children enrolled.

It was in 1892 the town changed its name to Hudson as there was another town named Egan and it was getting very confusing. It wasn’t until 1890 that a wagon bridge was built across the Rock River so people in Iowa could also shop in Hudson
